Grace Woodroofe – “I’ve Handled Myself Wrong” (live with Ben Harper)
Australia’s Grace Woodroofe has got this cool Fiona Apple vibe going on throughout her debut record Always Want. Accompanied by minor piano chords, Woodroofe croons along with dark and penetrating vocals. Most of her songs move along at a crawling pace, almost like a spaced out Norah Jones. Woodroofe reveals her emotions as if singing from a broken heart. She even seems to be on the brink of tears at times, creating a really intimate space between the song and your ears. When she does pick it up, she uses industrial experimentation rather than mainstream polish like on the excellent “Transformer”. Fun fact: Ben Harper signed on as an early fan and produced and performed on the album along with his band Relentless7.
