Operation Every Band

SXSW Spreadsheet 55 - the “Gold” set - Highlights:
The Golden Dogs - a poppy experimental rock band from Toronto.  The Golden Dogs are an energetic outfit, combining edgy indie rock with interesting harmonic elements and fuzzy instrumentation.  I especially like how The Golden Dogs shift their sound within each song, changing rhythmic elements freely to great an adventurous listen.  They have a strong British rock influence as well, incorporating new wave melodies but maintaining a garage rock mentality.  The Golden Dogs are currently touring in support of their 2010 album Coat of Arms, their 4th full LP since their debut in 2002.
Golden Bear - indie rock from Austin featuring big fuzzy guitars.  Golden Bear has aptly drawn comparison to fellow indie rockers Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, and especially The Flamings Lips, minus the confetti cannons of course.  Golden Bear incorporates a large sound, often breaking out their choruses with blasts of energy and sound to epic results.  They maintain a lo fi mentality throughout though, living in between distorted guitars and orchestral swells.  Their style is upbeat and fun, so I’m sure their live show brings a similar energy.
Goldheart Assembly - a poppy indie folk/rock band from London.  Goldheart Assembly was formed in 2007 by two former zookeepers (seriously).  Prior to recording, they gained a good deal of hype prior to releasing any material with performances at large UK festivals such as Glastonbury and Isle of Wight.  This makes sense, as Goldheart Assembly presents an anthemic sound perfectly suited towards a large festival audience.  Their music incorporates softer folk elements, creating a meandering beauty, but also brings a bring sound especially in choruses begging for flags swinging and crowds shouting along.  Goldheart Assembly released their debut LP last year, and are currently already working on a follow-up, so expect some new material at SXSW this year.
Gifts From Enola - post rock from Harrisonburg, VA incorporating louder metal-influences soundscapes.
The Gin Riots - an indie rock band from London with some new wave and punk influence.
Gold Panda - instrumental electonic pop from Essex, UK that is equally eclectic and catchy.
Goldberg Sisters - actor Adam Goldberg’s avante garde music project with a relaxed cinematic feel.
