Doe Paoro “Slow to Love”

Pairs Well With…Rachael Yamagata, Sara Bareilles, Lykke Li

The songs on Doe Paoro’s 2012 album Slow to Love revolve around the raw nerves of love, for good and bad, she’s backed by building tracks that combine Cello, Piano, and Drums with some minimal electronic elements. The album’s eight full songs really leave you wanting to hear more, and if CMJ is any indication we can expect just that. Her emotional operatic singing remains front and center and I really look forward to hearing some songs from her upcoming album though I expect I’ll still want to hear more.

2012 Review:Doe Paoro’s songs are driven by ominous piano lines and her haunting vocals. She studied Lhamo, Tibetan folk opera, and incorporates many of the vocal twists and turns of an opera singer into her songs. Her most recent single, Born Whole really embraces these techniques and by virtue is one of the most interesting songs in recent memory.  Her song “Can’t Leave You”  deals with the end of a relationship and the video is featured in the SXSW.com Showcasing Artist YouTube playlists. It will be interesting to see what type of songs Paoro releases in the future.
