Max Burgundy“A Son’s Response”

***SXSW 2013 – OEB FRESHMAN FAVORITE***

Pairs Well With…Homeboy Sandman, Murs, headphones

Finally a hip hop artist joins our other OEB Freshman Favorites and who better than Max Burgundy. The nature of listening to so many different artists leads us to skim a small portion of any given artist’s music and we certainly miss a few great musicians just by catching a portion of their songs that don’t hit us or may not be their best. There is power in selecting a strong single and “A Son’s Response” is a lyrical gut punch that draws you in. Check out the album it comes from, The Murder of Mark Fuhrman, over at Bandcamp. Overall the album is a strong artistic statement and features fellow OEB favorite Doe Paoro. Burgundy is one of the most interesting SXSW discoveries yet this year, hopefully he’s part of a solid grouping among the painfully hit and miss hip hop showcases at SXSW. Either way he’s one to keep an eye out for in the future.
