Barrie’s upcoming sophomore record Barbara is setting up to be a dreamer, sparser affair from her more rock-pop oriented debut given the four tracks she’s released so far, letting her personal songwriting stand out more than ever. There are still explorations around the edges of indie pop on songs like hypnotic synth builder “Quarry” and most recent single “Jenny”, a woozy love song with hints of country tones informing the sweet and warm track. The variety continues on the new-wave drum machines powering “Frankie” and the joyous chants of “Dig” - Barbara is real evolution of Barrie’s sound and is set up to be a rewarding, far-reaching record that still emits the sound of comfort and grace.
