Bilk - “Just Don’t Work For Me”
SXSW 2023 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 4
Pairs Well With…Fontaines D.C., Shame, The Strokes
In what best can be described as minimal UK post-punk, Bilk’s music is notably efficient, keeping all the elements you would expect from this type of driving, full music while paring their sound to its true core. The result is both catchy and engrossing while still keeping their music both homely and personal. Emo rock influences play into the core of Bilk’s music, but the English band’s approach feels more DIY than the clean and sharp tones that often accompany that genre. All this analysis aside, Bilk’s music is ultimately fun and danceable, carefree and raw. Bilk’s self-titled debut is due next month, but check out four singles now that preview what’s to come soon.
