Blue Lake - “Green-Yellow Field”

SXSW 2024 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 4

Pairs Well With…William Tyler, Explosions in the Sky, Brian Eno

A solo record primarily recorded on a custom-made zither (like a mix between a harp and guitar), Blue Lakes’ Sun Arcs is a gorgeous walk that is part ambience and part Americana in texture and tone. Fully instrumental, Blue Lake matches drones and plucky melodies in a way that recalls Eastern traditions, but reframes them with new-age patience. Keyboards and drums also sparsely accompany the open space of Sun Arcs, softly guiding the floating, string plucks. They musically tell a story that recalls country traditions, but in spaced out accord. (Kevin McStravick)
