Cadence Weapon - “On Me” (feat. Sanga Saint Hilare & Strict Face)

SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 5

Pairs Well With…P.O.S., JPEGMAFIA, Buck 65

Five albums and a decade-and-a-half in, Cadence Weapon continues to hone his clever lyricism, topical songwriting, and creative beats. The Canadian rapper’s latest is Parallel World, an album that feels like it has one foot in NYC indie rap and another in dark London grime, giving Parallel World a lot of space to play in, twisting genre-based expectations. Lyrically dense and performing with studied precision, Cadence Weapon is a rapper’s rapper and an artist really focused whether conversing topics playful or socially serious. (Kevin McStravick)

2011 Review: Cadence is a young MC, but has been gaining acclaim in Canada since the release of his first record Breaking Kayfabe in 2005.  His beats are based in dance music, concentrating on fun and exciting house beats.  There are songs that explore other territory as well, from indie rock to electronic-based R&B.  His rhymes are his real strength, focusing on material concerning everyday life rather than fame and fortune creating an honest sensibility to his music.
