Danielle Durack - “Broken Wings”

SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 2

Pairs Well With…Ingrid Michaelson, Julien Baker, Taylor Swift

Danielle Durack’s first full-length No Place is a strong continuation of the Phoenix based artist’s atmospheric songwriting, blending alt country and bedroom pop melodies with consistent sonic heart. From ambient quiet on opener “Mistakes” to the full-throated alt rock within “Broken Wings”, Durack’s music has subtle, impactful sides to it. A deep listen to No Place keeps revealing new influences, softened R&B (“I’ll Try”), piano power balladry (“There Goes My Heart”) and new wave pop (“Don’t Know If I’ll Stick Around”) broaden this impressively complete effort. 2020 Review: At its heart, Danielle Durack’s sophomore EP Bashful is a sweet slice of acoustic-pop balladry, but the Phoenix, Arizona based artist adds some nice atmospherics to the record to ease the natural charm in her songwriting. Durack cautiously balances allure and melancholy on Bashful, succeeding best when letting her music breathe like on the back half of “Start” and subtly yearning “Something Good”. Durack’s music is refreshing and real, a vulnerable peak into her relationships and lonelier times, creating a mood that bridges Americana folk and bedroom pop of today.
