Delta Sprit - “It Ain’t Easy”

SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 9; Popularity Index: 9

Pairs Well With…Dawes, Blitzen Trapper, Dr. Dog

Five albums in, Delta Spirit added a pop-minded spirit on 2020’s What Is There, filling songs with hooky guitar and synth melodies in addition to their grimy rock and roll foundation. Soul and R&B infuse many of these tracks, mid-tempo groovers rather than bursts, nicely complimenting the alt country tones that also permeate those same tracks. While there’s a lot of melody interlocking on What Is, Delta Spirit avoid sounding overly busy, pulling back to their core of well-written, memorable power pop songs. (Kevin McStravick)

2015 Review: Simply put, Delta Spirit are one of the best rock bands touring today.  Their latest record is 2014’s Into The Wide, the most mature album in their catalog with musically serious songwriting to match the band’s consistently strong sound.  Delta Spirit have really stripped the Americana sound that defined earlier records and even the band’s third, self-titled LP’s power pop and classic rock infusion.  This Delta Spirit has grown into confident moodiness, reflective lyrics the meld effortlessly with atmospheric riffs.
