Georgia Harmer - “Top Down”

SXSW 2023 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 3

Pairs Well With…Aldous Harding, Pom Pom Squad, Soccer Mommy

Balancing melancholy, bedroom folk and heavier alt-rock inflections, Georgia Harmer’s debut record Stay In Touch has a surprising amount of sonic depth while keep an organic rock core. Instead of adding indie-pop synths or anything like that, Harmer’s dynamics come from turning up and down the reverb on her guitar. In its plaintive times, Stay In Touch has a bit of an alt-country air too - she really covers a lot of ground across her debut in genres where that isn’t the norm. Combine all of that with a raw, emotive delivery and Stay in Touch becomes an affecting record both in terms of songwriting and sound. Georgia Harmer performs Tuesday night at Swan Dive alongside an excellent group of artists including Fionn, Bella White, and Hansom Éli. (Kevin McStravick)
