Gia Ford - “Falling In Love Again"

SXSW 2024 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 3

Pairs Well With…Faye Webster, Palehound, St. Vincent

Streams of alt-rock and Americana blend in Gia Ford’s early singles, a mix that balances traditional and progressive directions quite cleanly. There’s a sense of drama that comes from Ford’s songwriting and cinematic vocal melodies. It plays great with the grey dreaminess of her music, yielding moody singles that are right in between sparse and bombastic. With just four songs released so far, Ford has committed all of her tracks to a similar lane, one that establishes an initial sound that is both emotive and nonchalant all at once. While a burgeoning artist, note the maturity in Ford’s sweeping take on expressive piano pop in songs like “Falling In Love Again” and “Alligator” as signposts for an artist with strong potential ahead.
