Goodnight, Texas - “To Hurry Things Along”

SXSW 2023 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 8

Pairs Well With…The Avett Brothers, Turnpike Troubadours, The Low Anthem

Ten-plus years as a band and that experience shows on Goodnight, Texas’s latest record How Long Will It Take Them to Die, an Americana record performed with tinges of pop/rock catchiness. The San Francisco-based band is rooted in blues and folk stylings, stomping alongside acoustic picking and pretty harmonies. Sometimes deep and raw, others softer and emotional, Goodnight, Texas cover a surprising amount of genre-space with one foot solidly covered in red dirt. Balancing true, bluegrass-style roots with more modern folk rock gives How Long Will It Take Them To Die authenticity while not being fully a throwback effort. A year later, Goodnight, Texas just shared a new single that’s amongst their most personal and beautiful, the quiet anthem “To Hurry Things Along”. They’re a great pick if you want to close out SXSW in an easy and natural way, performing Saturday night at Victorian Room at The Driskill between Evan Bartels and His His. (Kevin McStravick)
