Hannah Jadagu - “All My Time Is Wasted”

SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 3

Pairs Well With…Vagabon, Beach House, Alvvays

Texas artist Hannah Jadagu debuted her first EP What Is Going On? last year and it’s an impressive collection of dream rock, airy tracks with just enough grunge and shoegaze heft to weigh her sound down to the deep end. Her songs are anchored in breezy indie pop/rock, more delicate than dense with shades of twee pop informing her subtly hooky songwriting. Take the hazy reverb and instrumental harmonies and Jadagu’s music is tight, almost bright pop, a nice juxtaposition to the soft intonations that broaden her early catalog. Perhaps Jadagu’s strongest track is also her most recent - single “All My Time Is Wasted” removes a bit of the dream-pop layers for a more indie-rock vibing sound, balancing sparseness with moments of full racket across the dynamic, grungy, and emotionally connecting track. Hannah Jadagu showcases Wednesday night inside Cheer Up Charlie’s, a stacked bill in a small room also featuring Pom Poko, Fieh, Donna Blue, and Steve Gunn. (Kevin McStravick)
