Julianna Riolino - “Queen of Spades”

SXSW 2023 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 3

Pairs Well With…Erin Rae, Pearla, Anais Mitchell

Part traditional country and part Southern rock, Julianna Riolino’s debut record All Blue is catchy and memorable while still being rooted to a nostalgic core. She puts a breezy lens on the genre, one that reflects bedroom-pop songwriting and gives her sound extra depth. Hailing from Ontario, Canada, there’s some extra crunch to Riolino’s sound that tends to be the case with artists from up north labeled as Americana. One foot in the past and one in the present, Juliana Riolino sounds confident in the space she’s laid out for herself on All Blue. It’s a sound that will feel right at home in the backyard of an Austin bar, exactly the place Riolino will be performing on Tuesday night at Swan Dive Patio in between recommended artists Rosier and POSTDATA.
