Julie Doiron - “Thought of You”

SXSW 2023 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 6

Pairs Well With…Angel Olsen, Lucinda Williams, Mount Eerie

Dependable and experienced, Julie Doiron has defined herself through country and folk influences feeding a core rock and roll sound. Her songs are catchy, but not necessarily pop-centered, more connected to classic rock and blues writers of the past. Going down easy, Doiron’s songwriting is to the point and personal, relatable and loving. The Canadian artist started her career in the 90s and has blossomed from there, incorporating more indie folk and spacier elements towards the latter half of her discography. Her latest is I Thought of You, Doiron’s eleventh proper full-length and among the most comfortable Playing with a top-notch band including Dany Palcard and Daniel & Ian Romano, it’s a record that dips into some interesting spaces, including some psych-rock territory incorporated in a patient and inclusive way.
