Lunar Vacation - “Mold”

SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 6

Pairs Well With…Swearin’, CHVRCHES, Best Coast

Atlanta indie rock band Lunar Vacation released their debut full-length last fall and Inside Every Fig is as Dead Wasp is weaved mix of bright riffs, shoegaze layers, and dream pop that goes down smoothly. Power-pop songwriting anchors their tracks, but Lunar Vacation add hazy vibes and lo fi influences to mold an otherwise sunny sound. Echoes of 60s and 70s pop can be excavated from the band’s music too, though Lunar Vacation are quick to twist those melodies to sounds a little more distant and mysterious. The record is also a mix of tight choruses and more spaced-out, psych rock moments - it’s in this sense of balance that Lunar Vacation succeeds the most. (Kevin McStravick)
2019 Review: A myriad of dream pop, synth action, and breezy, surf rock, Lunar Vacation melds indie rock styles into loose, comfortable, and efficient tracks. Balancing melancholic and bright, the Atlanta band demands a listen outside on a sunny day, or at least longing for such from the dead of winter. Their latest is Artificial Flavors, the band’s sophomore EP and a well-rounded piece even at just four songs.
