SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 5
Pairs Well With…Homeboy Sandman, Lupe Fiasco, Quelle Chris
MC Bravado continues to weave complex raps over classically indie-rap beats on his latest singles, reliably tight and expert-level rhyme schemes highlighting the technically skilled artist. More old school than pop-oriented, Bravado is a rapper’s rapper in his studied, referential approach. Clever and percussive, Bravado’s lyricism and flow is also a ton of fun - the Baltimore rapper is a natural performer that will leave ears impressed this SXSW. Catch MC Bravado at Sheraton BackYARD on Thursday night, an eclectic hip hop showcase also featuring recommend acts Magna Carda and Student 1. (Kevin McStravick)
2020 Review: Lyrically dense, MC Bravado’s songwriting fills ever available space with his reflective, creative raps, recalling classic indie rap with full commitment to his craft. The Baltimore-based artist selects equally innovative beats, sampling Breaking Bad, Pink Floyd, and even Mumford and Sons on wildly repurposed “Same Old Song” across his latest full-length Like Water For Hangovers. MC Bravado is an impressive rapper and lyricist, a precise bridge between nerdcore-like, referential material and studied classic hip hop. Overall, Like Water For Hangover is fun as hell too, so go for a close listen or grooving party vibe, either/or.
