Thickly covered in feedback and intensely driving, MENGERS’ sophomore record GOLLY and recent single “i/O” burst with aggression and intention. Subverting any Latin rock expectations, the Mexican power-rock trio take a garage rock setting and add capturing grime and texture. While MENGERS are studied in classic punk rock, they blow out that base with psychedelic rock atmosphere and stoner rock riffs, viscous melodies that bubble with lo-fi tension. Hazy yet dense, MENGERS have a sound that is as loud as it is hypnotic, layering surf-rock patterns that somehow feel evil and bright all at the same time. (Kevin McStravick)
