Nari - “Lower My Expectations”

SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 2

Pairs Well With…Best Coast, Beach House, Japanese Breakfast

Pretty and woozy melodies borrowed from 60s girl groups and surf pop, Nari feeds those classic, catchy runs through a comfortable, psychedelic pop filter. Her brand of bedroom pop/rock is delicately sweet, a collection of steady singles since debuting in 2019 with whispered soul groove “Maybe”. It’s the sound of nostalgic dreams and one that still swings when slowed down and augmented with synth atmospherics. Nari has a strong grasp of R&B and pop song forms, but utilizes that knowledge with subtly given her quietly hooky tracks. Nari performs on Wednesday night alongside her Park the Van label-mates Neighbor Lady, Julie Odell, and Tino Drima at Seven Grand. (Kevin McStravick)
