PEGGY’s songwriting is full of charm, based in sweet acoustic pop and breezy indie rock. She’s a lyric-focused artist, funny at times and generally clever as she poetically draws out messy love stories. She bounces back and forth between serious and self deprecating on a run of singles since debuting in 2021 with the excellent “Fictional Men”. There’s drama in her music as well, the kind that is influenced by Disney ballads as much as straight pop/rock angles. The feeling that these songs are pulled from fairy tales is purposeful and grin-inducing, a unique lane that is as hook-driven as any other artist on the SXSW roster. PEGGY showcases at The Creek and the Cave Backyard on Friday night for Nettwerk and GRRRL Music, performing right before fellow recommended acts Sarah Klang and Bleach Lab. (Kevin McStravick)
