A truly stunning release, Perfume Genius’s Set My Heart On Fire Immediately is an ultra-lush creation guided by classic pop, electronic R&B, and cinematic chamber pop over the course of its diverse song set. It’s a record as delicate as it is full, lonesome as it is grand. Dream-pop instrumentation lay the backing of much of Set My Heart’s canvas, but are augmented with tropicalia, blues, or sometimes empty rhythms. It morphs into a sound that is both relaxing and unsettling depending on Perfume Genius’s intent. A favorite of all 2020 albums, SXSW will provide a great space to experience Perfume Genius’s detailed sound live - Perfume Genius formally showcases on Wednesday night at Central Presbyterian Church in what should be an intimate interview and performance with Song Exploder. 2014 Review: Minimal singer-songwriter Perfume Genius will be using a Turnstile Music showcase at St David’s Historic Sanctuary to preview songs for his upcoming 3rd record. His first gig since recording, it should be an excitingly introspective set following along with the haunting beauty of Perfume Genius’ earlier records, Learning and Put Your Back N 2 It. He’s such a delicate performer, using the power of his voice over some electronics or post-rock swirls to power through emotional ballads.
