Plato III’s last full-length 9 Love Songs is layered in chillwave groove, half hip hop and half R&B, psychedelic pop with a personal, emotional core. It’s Texan rapper’s third full-length and is his most internal and vulnerable of his catalog, eschewing old school vibes and hooks for bedroom rap emotions. 9 Love Songs is a strong blend of accessibility and experimentalism - Plato III is adventurous track to track, but there’s still pop-oriented patterns and beats that open up several lanes for the versatile rapper to take into the future. While open and real, there’s also a charm to Plato III’s sound, a winking notion different than his more serious emo rap peers. (Kevin McStravick)
