Queralt Lahoz - “De la Cueva a los Olivos”
SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 5
Pairs Well With…Rosalía, Paloma Mami, Dellafuente
Flamenco artist Queralt Lahoz firstly delivers impactful, traditional Spainsh music, soaring romantic vocals over percussive guitars and rhythms. From there, the beautifully voiced artist explores, including jazzy, ambient pop (“Drogas Caras”), old-school hip hop (“Con Poco”), and neo-soul R&B (“Tu Boca”) across debut 2021 full-length Pureza and surrounding singles and EPs. Honestly, if Queralt Lahoz was a straight Flamenco artist, she would still kill it, but the range of her music makes it so much more interesting as she throws genre expectations out the window. There’s something for everyone here too, from dream pop to upbeat rap to studied nostalgia, an artist with the ability to have international impact as these songs get to more ears. Queralt Lahoz showcases with Sounds from Spain, an eclectic lineup Thursday night at Reina + ReyRey. (Kevin McStravick)
