Quinn Christopherson - “Bubblegum”

SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 9; Popularity Index: 7

Pairs Well With…Hozier, Phosphorescent, Dermot Kennedy

While delivered over soft, electro-R&B grooves, Quinn Christopherson’s music has immediate impact, one personal, vulnerable, and real. The moving, introspective artist followed up on his two introductory singles last year with I Am Bubblegum, a three-song EP exploring the softer, more insular sides of synth-led indie rock. Christopherson’s songwriting is intricate and layered, allowing his lyricism to bite while keeping his accompanying music mightily smooth. Multiple listens to his 2021 tracks keep revealing new details - Quinn Christopherson is an artist that feels special and one worth rooting for as he swings through SXSW this year. Lookout for a formal showcase from Christopherson to be announced shortly, but for now check him out on Thursday afternoon performing a set inside the Convention Center at the Flatstock Stage. 2020 Review: With a quivering voice that immediately and emotionally grips the soul, Quinn Christopherson is an artist that has a sound so rich he’s guaranteed to be someone to follow for a long, important career. Crooning over minimal electronic pop/indie rock backing, Christopherson acts as a critical storyteller on his two released tracks “Raedeen” and “Erase Me”. The latter, the most recent winner of NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert, explores Christopherson’s transgender experience with quiet, lonely confidence. His personal songwriting is expressed with vocals that go from whispered to pained yearning over the subtly complicated and tense ballad.
