Ringo Deathstarr - “Cotton Candy Clouds”

SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 7

Pairs Well With…Whirr, No Joy, My Bloody Valentine

2022 will be Ringo Deathstarr’s eleventh consecutive SXSW and it’s off the back of their most ambitious and rewarding release to date. 2020’s self-titled LP takes a driving, shoegaze base and add ghostly life to the project, stirring industrial rhythms and goth melodics with reverb-heavy power. Psychedelic and stoner rock riffs attack and dissolve at will - Ringo Deathstarr’s ability to focus on gripping melodies within a dense haze is impressive and keeps their sound exciting throughout the whole of the record. Epic closer “Cotton Candy Clouds” wraps Ringo Deathstarr’s latest up with a building fury, a highlight amongst the consistently engaging, mature record. (Kevin McStravick)

2015 Review: Spaced-out dream rock band Ringo Deathstarr is on at least their fifth straight SXSW, repping the noisier, psychedelic streets of Austin music.  The band is currently recording a follow-up to 2012’s reverb-heavy Mauve, so look for new tracks to predominate their showcases this year.
