Rosier - “Quatre Mots” (feat. L’Isle)

SXSW 2023 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 8

Pairs Well With…Belle & Sebastian, Anavitória, Claude Francois

Based around pretty French folk songs, Canadian band Rosier set a pastoral scene, the musical equivalent of an impressionist painting emitting both warmth and precision. Moving from sweet twee pop to slightly groovier material, Rosier keep things comfortable and beautiful across most of their catalog, the most recent being 2021’s Légèrement. While quiet and patient, Rosier add little melodic dynamics that take their songs beyond campfire material into something cinematic and subtly grand. At the same time, there’s intimacy to Rosier’s music that bolsters natural romanticism without ever sounding musically sappy. (Kevin McStravick)
