Salt Cathedral released their far-reaching debut CARISMA in 2020, a collection of Latin dream-pop tracks that dip into electronic pop (“Te Quiero Olvidar”), hip hop (“How Beautiful”), and sunny tropicalia (“Rude Boy”) across this welcoming introduction. While light in its melodic intentions, Salt Cathedral add a wide range of rhythms across CARISMA that keeps their music moving through the Colombian duo’s understated direction. Is this dance music or a headphone listen? Salt Cathedral threads that middle ground wonderfully with consistent, bilingual appeal. (Kevin McStravick)
2020 Review: Tropicalia dream pop duo Salt Cathedral are set to finally release their bilingual debut full-length this April, previewed by a string of 2019 singles including new-wave, chill-groover “CAVIER” and “Te Quiero Olvidar”, a slow bouncing track that combines traditional Colombian melodies and rhythms with synthed out, quiet pop dynamics. It seems that Salt Cathedral is leaning stronger into the Latin pop influences and it’s where the Brooklyn-based band sound at their freshest and most natural, so here’s to their LP hitting more of those notes.
