Sophia Kennedy’s Monsters, her 2021 sophomore record, is a dreamy exploration of the German artist’s natural eclecticism. Part classic pop melodies and part trip hop, Kennedy’s music floats in mysterious airs. She’ll often add distortion to her vocals while softly tripping out the music underneath, mixing a little grime to her spacial, emotive songwriting. Monsters covers a ton of ground musically, ranging from the industrial slices of closer “Dragged Myself into the Sun”, the hip-hop versed “Orange Tic Tac” and the quirky yet gentle track “Seventeen”.
