Abraham Alexander - “Stay”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 6

Pairs Well With…Sam Smith, Cautious Clay, Gary Clark Jr.

Combining smooth R&B/soul and spacious indie folk atmosphere, Abraham Alexander’s ballads are pretty, minimal takes that accentuate the Texas artist’s naturally sweet vocals. Highlighted by the beautifully melodic “Stay”, Alexander’s debut EP covers gospel-pop (“Lover’s Game”), blues rock grooves (“335”), and some tense psych rock/pop (“America”), exploring different R&B modes put forward by Alexander’s gritty/smooth blended sound. His music is also really accessible and pop-oriented, a talented songwriter and vocalist hitting stride right out of the gate. (Kevin McStravick)
