Canadian indie folk/pop/rock artist Basia Bulat is prepped for her fifth full-length this year and recently previewed Are You In Love? with highlight lead single “Your Girl”. Again produced by My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, “Your Girl” is a nice continuation of Bulat’s evolved breezy dream-pop sound, catchy and light allowing for a spotlight on Bulat’s rich, nuanced vocal melodies, understated yet subtly impressive. Everything sounds in the right place, as it always does, no matter whether on the folkier or poppier side of Bulat’s musical spectrum - a good sign for another must-listen record on the horizon in late March. 2016 Review: Not surprising for 2015, Basia Bulat picked up the indie pop bug according to her latest single “Infamous”, the lead single from her fourth record Good Advice, due this February. The song has some folk-ballad moments in Bulat’s verse melody, but it’s the percussive bounce and star-platform chorus that bolsters “Infamous” into contemporary relevance. Some of that oomph is surely due to the record’s producer, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, an excellent choice to hold Bulat’s hand as she leaps off the folk cliff into the pop unknown.
