Chelsea Williams - “Red Flag”
SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 3
Pairs Well With…Margo Price, Caitlyn Smith, Jade Bird
California alt country artist Chelsea Williams had a busy 2019 following up her sophomore record Boomerang with a covers EP and Christmas single added to her catalog, but she’s back to her wheelhouse this year with the release of single “Red Flag”. A poppy country track that is equally traditionally grounded and contemporarily melodic, “Red Flag” is amongst the brighter tracks she’s released so far and is a nice mix of Laurel Canyon and Nashville influences. It’s the first single released from Williams’ upcoming to-be-named full-length due sometime in 2020. (Kevin McStravick)
2019 Review: Chelsea Williams is a soul singer, weaving richly resonant melodies across her countrified 2017 full-length Boomerang. Her songwriting and performance is classically minded, leveraging rambling blues rock and pastoral Americana modes to tell tales of love and loss. This is a sound built to be heard live - Williams and band and in the midst of a nationwide tour that wraps up this March at SXSW.
