Dumbo Gets Mad is a duo originally from Italy, that moved to Los Angeles, and sounds like what would happen if the British Invasion occurred behind a heavy dose of Afro-beats and acid tabs. Dumbo Gets Mad certainly follows the retro-revival recipe: pitch-shifting vocals, phaser effects, and lots of reverb. But many of today’s artists get bogged down by meticulous production methods that they forget to give their songs space to breathe. This experimental studio project creates their atmosphere with zainy, even schmaltzy organs that morph into formidable bass grooves. Dumbo Gets Mad trade in sterile production for funky, playful vibes make you put on your John Lennon sunglasses and dance. (Drew Doggett)
