Flamingo - “Rose”
SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 2
Pairs Well With…BIRTHH, Maya Folick, Pale Waves
Flamingo’s transitions back and forth from ambience to density are often jarring, rattling their songs like a sonic earthquake. Their 2016 debut EP is anchored by minimal folk tracks like “Bergen” and “Chances”, but even the latter’s coda hints at the post-rock dynamics the Italian trio eventually unleashes on a pair of explosive 2019 singles “Mother” and “Rose”. Both begin in spacious light, but driving feedback and percussion are what gives both tracks real impact not only in volume, but also in the depth that exists in Flamingo’s darkly tinged songwriting.
