Lorine Chia’s 2019 record Sweet Noise is a mix of classic, new soul R&B and spacier, hip hop notes, blending in accessible, psychedelic pop grooves. The weirder moments on Sweet Noise are also the most standout - see the sludgy “$ and Peace” and trip hop excursion “Floating in the Night” for examples of Chia successfully taking her smooth-soul sound to new planes.
