NYC-based artist Mia Gladstone adds elements of hip hop, reggae, and jazz into her indie pop stew, yielding grooving, down-tempo vibes on her debut 2019 EP Grow. It’s a fine mix of ambient pop and danceable beats, not so much bouncing between those modes, but rather blending them together in a quirkily warm sound. Drum and bass rhythms are sanded down on the title track, followed by the slowed-down funk of “Baby Don’t Worry” - Mia Gladstone is able to stretch without losing an ounce of cool swagger that drives the undercurrent of her subtly vibrant sound.
