Combining dream pop atmosphere with a jazzy, smooth soul presentation, Molly with Charles find an airy plane for their plaintive R&B songwriting across two 2017 EPs and 2019 single “Strawberry”. There’s an organic vibe given off from Molly with Charles’s music that’s uncommon in the ambience of their genre, finding cool lounge grooves to float the duo’s wistful melodies. Of note is Molly Arizona’s rich vocal, able to resonate in both lower, natural areas and sweet falsetto-like hums, putting that instrument out front over Molly with Charles’s relatively minimal accompaniment.
