California soul groovers Monophonics continue to hone their tight, throwback sound on 2018 covers EP Mirrors and recent single “Chances”, digging into R&B and funk rhythms, yearning vocal melodies, and smooth horn lines sounding like they are coming off wax from decades ago. Monophonics add a nice layer of psychedelic rock to their sound as well, tripping out just enough to build depth without distracting from their swinging core. Dreamy, breezy jam “Chances” is the first single from Monophonics third full-length It’s Only Us, promising a warm record of classic soul due this March. (Kevin McStravick)
