Painted Zeros - “(O) Only You”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 2

Pairs Well With…BIRTHH, Say Sue Me, Waxahatchee

Painted Zeros apparently have a sophomore record just about ready to be announced with some behind-the-scenes music video and studio shots recently shared, but for now it’s a revisit of their dreamy, grunge pop debut Floriography on the agenda. The moody, Brooklyn-based band ranges from melancholy power pop to the psychedelic waves of highlight “(O) Only You” on Floriography, so it’ll be interest to see if they go for a sound wide or targeted on expected album number two. 2016 Review: Brooklyn dream rock band Painted Zeros come from garage and indie pop perspectives on Floriography, their debut full-length.  Fluid guitar lines intermingle with grunge riff power on the consistent record, skipping freely between cloudy loneliness and upfront urgency.  To do both so well out of the gate is impressive and potentially has wide appeal as the band continues to grow.  Floriography is underproduced, which could be purposeful or not as an upstart band, but there’s some indications that these songs slay emotionally and physically live, a heads up going into SXSW 2016.
