Photay - “Warmth in the Coldest Acre”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 7

Pairs Well With…Deadelus, Chrome Sparks, Gold Panda

“Warmth in the Coldest Acre” is the lead single from Photay’s upcoming third record Waking Hours, a lush, mid-tempo electronic jam performed with patience amid chillwave synths and sanded-down funk rhythms. Dreamily layered and featuring some distant, distorted vocals, “Warmth in the Coldest Acre” is like the sound of snow falling in a space station, a mix of otherworldly and organic melodies intertwining with creative zeal. Photay’s excellent sophomore record Onism also shared a similar atmosphere, though the Woodstock, NY based artist spent more time in ambience and midnight air there, so it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of Waking Hours opens up the dynamic producer’s sound even more. 2015 Review: Photay is a New  York based electronic producer that makes layered hard-hitting songs and remixes. His style is often playful changing tempo wit unexpected twists and turns. It’s this sense of exploration and an innate sense for catchy rhythms that makes his compositions so appealing. His 2014 debut Self-titled EP, available on limited edition vinyl, is nine tracks of adventurous, funky mostly instrumental electronica. Each track is an audio adventure for the listener.
