DIY 80s revivalist Pizzagirl plays his music with a wink, groovy and weird new wave pop tracks alive with personality. His debut full-length is 2019’s first timer, a lowercase statement of breezy synth pop ranging from the Knight-Rider melodies of opener “ball’s gonna keep on rollin’” to the chillwave soundscapes of dream pop exploration “goodnight”. In between are lo fi funk jammers (“dennis”), tight power pop numbers (“body biology”) and yacht-rock ballads (“yesterday”) - Pizzagirl goes all-in no matter the approach, percussively crooning with yearning soul. The Liverpool-based artist has a couple of EPs and assorted singles prior to the release of first timer that are a little more traditional dream pop, but there are experimental touches to his earlier songwriting even with a cleaner, spaced-out vibe from which his music has grown.
