Sun June - “Monster Moon”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 3

Pairs Well With…Samia, Bedouine, Aldous Harding

Sun June’s music is warm and romantic, steeped in alt-country and soft-rock tones and delivered with whispered sweetness. The Austin singer-songwriter followed up her consistently comforting and dreamy debut full-length Years with a couple singles in 2020, ambient-jazz ballad “NYC” and “Monster Moon”, a more pacing number that’s still markedly understated even when measured with a little bit of swing. Sun June stands out not only for her subdued performance but also on the strength of her songwriting, finding moments of empowerment in the lightest of ways. (Kevin McStravick)
