The Dunts - “Marilyn”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 4

Pairs Well With…Franz Ferdinand, The Clash, The Vaccines

Power pop/punk rock band The Dunts released a couple singles in 2019 and both “Marilyn” and “Bad Decisions” find the Scottish upstarts writing catchy hooks underneath reverb-heavy power chords. Punchy and jangly, The Dunts are a good mix of classic and contemporary garage rock, deceptively straightforward and natural songwriters in the form. Both tracks are fun and memorable, efficient and studied in what works. (Kevin McStravick)

2019 Review: Bursts of classic UK punk rock kick off “G3”, hitting with the intensity of a speed metal band and the urgency of protest music of fifty years back. The Dunts pack a lot of story in couple-minute-long rock tracks, both sonically and lyrically. The Scottish musicians have two EPs to their name so far, the most recent aptly titled Self Proclaimed Council Punk. This type of power pop normally keeps bands in a fairly narrow lane, but The Dunts show significant breadth track to track without losing an ounce of energy.
