TT The Artist’s latest single “Everyday Is a Party” transcends from an upbeat club banger to some otherworldly escapism released in the middle of a pandemic keeping us all home, but that’s the kind of medicine that gets us through when the walls seem to be growing higher day by day. That carefree vibe is a theme that continues through much of TT The Artist’s music, either delivered in a light, dance-oriented mode or harder trap leanings depending on the mood within her prolific catalog. The Baltimore rapper has been at it for over a decade and her music has evolved from more eclectic, experimental dance/rap territory to tight hip hop tracks with some deep threads of alternative R&B. TT The Artist’s rap style moves as well, from indie-minded jazzed melodies to thicker trap approaches on 2016 solo record Queen of the Beat and a strong run of 2018-2020 singles since then. While there’s impressive musicality embedded in TT The Artist’s music, overall these tracks are damn fun and grooving even by yourself with headphones on. TT The Artist has been keeping busy in quarantine as well, recording new music, dropping a craft channel sharing DIY mask tips, and performing a song about the census on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee last week. Creativity doesn’t sleep even on lockdown and here’s to whatever is next from an artist hitting her stride even through 2020. (Kevin McStravick)
