The Accidentals - “Crow’s Feet” (w/ Kaboom Collective)

SXSW 2023 - OEB Score: 7 ; Popularity Index: 8

Pairs Well With… Wild Child, Houndmouth, Lake Street Dive

We can officially call The Accidentals a veteran folk-rock band as they celebrated a decade as a band in 2022 with a symphonic retrospective, teaming with the Kaboom Collective for Reimagined, the band’s fifth proper full-length. Flourishes of strings and horns unsurprisingly merge into The Accidentals’ catalog soundly, accenting and elevating what were once small acoustic pop tunes and instead crafting a series of mini-epics. There’s still some country/bluegrass roots there if you dig, but it’s encouraging to hear The Accidentals really embrace their cinematic pop side with such confidence on Reimagined. The Accidentals close out a diverse showcase at the Victorian Room at The Driskill Friday night after recommended artists Jake Blount and Sara Curruchich. (Kevin McStravick)

2020 Review: Heading into their eighth year as a trio, The Accidentals immediately stand out for their tightness. Based around folk-rock forms, the Michigan-based outfit extend from gentle acoustic numbers like recent single “Marrow” to building set-closers comprised of harmonies and chamber pop instrumentation. The band twisted expectations with a live album in 2019 encompassing new tracks in lieu of singalong favorites, a smart production choice as these songs pop as much as anything in the band’s back catalog.
