Tokio Myers rose to prominence in 2017 in an unexpected way for a SXSW artist, by winning Britain’s Got Talent with his fusion of classical piano and electronic pop. While spotlighting his recent, ambient-based material is most relevant, it is worth digging back and seeing the magic Myers captured in a bottle on that game-show stage and feel the goosebumps of an artist sharing his talent to an unsuspecting audience. The merging of classical piano and synth pads has been done before and since, but it is worth noting the patience that Myers displays in his playing. It allows for the passion of each piano key to fully express itself and shows off Tokyo Myers ability to feel his music beyond just notes on treble and bass clefs. (Kevin McStravick)
