Wiley From Atlanta - “CONTACT HIGH”

SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 5

Pairs Well With…Post Malone, Mac Miller, Young Thug

Wiley continues to pave a unique hip-hop lane on 2021 record Kingfisher, melding Atlanta trap, throwback indie rap, and soulful R&B within smoky, dimly-lit air. Woozy love songs and psychedelic-vibed tracks make up Kingfisher, a slow, smooth foundation in which Wiley From Atlanta lays his gritty, blues-infused pop vocals. While Wiley plays with different hip hop, chillwave, and pop genres, his music is consistently comfortable, a make-it-look-easy quality that informs the laid-back nature of his funk-inspired grooves. 2020 Review: Wiley From Atlanta finds a unique lane on his debut record Blue Don’t Make Me Cry, combining blues and hip hop in a gravelly, explorative manner. His growl either acts as a rootsy instrument or modern rap flows depending on the mood of each track, a chameleon that maintains cohesion through his distinct vocal tone. Opener “Cashmere” is a spacious rap track, rhyming over light psychedelic beats, countered with the swampy urgency of highlight “Shells on the Rug”, a song that finds a cool R&B groove within Wiley From Atlanta’s full-bodied sound.
