Allegra Kreiger - “Low”

SXSW 2024 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 5

Pairs Well With…Sadurn, Tomberlin, Skullcrusher

While Allegra Krieger’s fourth record could be considered Americana in the broadest terms, I Keep My Feet on the Fragile Plane finds a more serious, personal space for the NYC-based artist to share her tomes. A little looser and a little more spaced out, Krieger finds a space that reflects country traditions without ever really sounding like country artist. Instead, Krieger whispers with quiet intensity and adds in slices of cinematic folk to aid her once traditional sound. Her creativity overfilled in 2023 and led to Fragile Plane: B-Sides, a collection of demos that present Krieger in a rawer plane and add even more impact to her vulnerable songwriting. 2022 Review: Mixing Americana with bedroom rock songwriting, Allegra Krieger presents a sound equally vulnerable and confident on her sophomore record The Joys of Forgetting. Moving between spare alt country and hints of grunge rock influences, The Joys of Forgetting has a nice sense of depth especially for its minimal, emotive approach. Allegra’s vocals are often understated and melancholic, but there’s subtle power in her lyrics and inflections that bubble out of a quiet, folk core.
