Allegra - “The Push and the Pull”

SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 2

Pairs Well With…Courtney Marie Andrews, Brandi Carlile, Sharon Van Etten

Mixing Americana with bedroom rock songwriting, Allegra Krieger presents a sound equally vulnerable and confident on her sophomore record The Joys of Forgetting. Moving between spare alt country and hints of grunge rock influences, The Joys of Forgetting has a nice sense of depth especially for its minimal, emotive approach. Allegra’s vocals are often understated and melancholic, but there’s subtle power in her lyrics and inflections that bubble out of a quiet, folk core. Allegra recently followed up The Joys of Forgetting with two demo-like EPs, low and there is a line and I’m following it down, a taste of an even-more-bare artist honing in on the power of song with a lone acoustic guitar in hand.
