BALTHVS - “Mango Season”
SXSW 2024 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 7
Pairs Well With…Khruangbin, Los Bitchos, Medeski Martin & Wood
The lead singles from BALTHVS’s upcoming fourth full-length are a smooth continuation of what they have laid down prior, a collection of psychedelic, instrumental funk played with laid-back ease. Highlighting guitar licks over a bed of bass and percussion, BALTHVS have the ability to both hypnotize and impress with a musical virtuosity across their respective instruments. While consistently chill, BALTHVS music is moving and interesting, easy to digest while stretching their limbs towards outer space. (Kevin McStravick)
2023 Review: Last year found Colombian instrumentalists BALTHVS releasing their sophomore full-length Cause & Effect, a strong continuation of the trio's jazzy, funky jamming. The fluidity of their guitar work finds a tone that feels like it has been filtered underwater in the most engaging way, an echoing sound that fits the psych-jam grooves that BALTHVS have so mastered. Minimal, but crucial, vocals do take more of a turn on Cause & Effect than before, but BALTHVS treat them as another instrument and bridges between their inventive instrumental sections.
